From Campinas to Toronto

I started medical school in 2003 at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, and earned my MD there in 2009. I completed my residency training and a PhD in Pharmacology at the same institution.

I arrived in Canada in 2017 and completed a 2-year clinical fellowship in Anesthesiology and Medical Education at the University of Toronto. I then earned a Master of Science in Community Health (Health Practitioner Teacher Education) in 2020, at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.

Since 2019 I have been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Toronto. My work focuses on how learners receive feedback, how faculty provide it, and how international medical graduates (IMGs) move into fellowship positions and independent practice in Canada.

Along the way I passed the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) and received the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC), earned the FRCPC, and lived every stage of the licensing journey I now help other IMGs navigate.

From March to October 2025 I was the IMG special advisor to the Medical Council of Canada, and I now collaborate with the MCC on a consultancy basis.
