Personal Story

From Campinas to Toronto

Dr. Santos started his medical journey in 2003, as a medical student at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in São Paulo, Brazil. He completed his medical school, residency training and PhD in Pharmacology at the same institution.

Since arriving in Canada in 2017, Dr. Filipe Santos has been a dynamic force within Canada's healthcare community. His quest for excellence brought him to the University of Toronto, where he completed a 2-year clinical fellowship program in Anesthesiology and Medical Education. He then complemented his training in the field of healthcare education by pursuing a Master of Science in Community Health (Health Practitioner Teacher Education), obtained in 2020, at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, at the University of Toronto.

Currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine of the University of Toronto since 2019, Dr. Santos plays a crucial role in the development of healthcare professionals. His dedication is reflected in his efforts to improve how learners receive feedback, how faculty provide feedback, and the transition of international medical graduates (IMGs) to fellowship positions and to independent practice in Canada.

Along the way he passed the Medical Council of Canada's Qualifying Examination (LMCC), earned the FRCPC, and lived first-hand every stage of the licensing journey he now helps other IMGs navigate.
