Public Health Intensive for the MCCQE
Live session recording + practice bank
Public health is commonly underestimated by candidates. This recording will help you give it the weight it deserves.
Internationally trained physicians lose points in public health for two reasons. The first is that the section gets less attention than it deserves. Public health and ethics together account for roughly one sixth of the MCCQE, yet most candidates treat it as the section they will pick up at the end. The second is that Canadian public health does not match what most ITPs were trained on. Screening guidelines, immunization schedules, and reporting requirements in Canada differ from those in the US and from those in most international training systems. If you walk in assuming your home-country baseline applies, you will lose marks on questions you should have known cold.
This product is the recording of the 4-hour live intensive co-taught by Dr. Filipe Santos and Dr. Jason Malenfant on Zoom. It is a content review course. You will leave understanding the material, not with a longer reading list.
What the session covers
- How public health is tested on the MCCQE, including the calculation questions that are predictable points if you know the formulas
- Epidemiology and biostatistics: sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, odds ratio, relative risk, absolute risk reduction, and number needed to treat
- Study design: cohort, case-control, RCTs, the four phases of clinical trials, and the distinctions the exam tests
- Types of bias: selection, information, screening, and timing biases, including lead-time and length-time bias
- Levels of prevention and Canadian cancer screening across lung, colorectal, breast, cervical, ovarian, and pancreatic cancer
- Smoking cessation using the 5 A’s, the 5 R’s, and the Stages of Change model, with first-line pharmacotherapy
- Vaccination questions including HPV catch-up and pneumococcal vaccination
- Communicable disease management and the 10 steps for outbreak control, with worked examples in Hepatitis A and Pertussis
- Environmental and occupational health: radon, asbestos and mesothelioma, and other occupational carcinogens
- The common IMG pitfalls on public health questions

Ethics Intensive for the MCCQE and NAC
Live session recording + practice bank + 2-pager
Ethics carries more weight on the exam than candidates assume. This recording walks through the material the session covered.
Ethics is the section where clinical knowledge alone does not save you. The Canadian framework rewards a very specific style of reasoning, and if you have not been trained to think that way, you will second-guess yourself on questions you should have aced. Per the MCC blueprint, Professional Behaviours account for 25% of physician activities tested on the MCCQE Part I, and Psychosocial Aspects account for 20% of items by dimension of care. Much of what is tested is country-specific. The CMA Code, Smith v. Jones, Bill C-7, the mature minor doctrine, and the equity-focused topics are just some examples of topics that may catch you off guard.
This product is the recording of the 4-hour live intensive taught by Dr. Filipe Santos on Zoom. The session is built around the SCAN framework: Situation, Context, Analysis, Navigate. One framework, applied to every ethics question, from the recording until test day.
What the session covers
- The SCAN framework, applied across fifteen worked MCQs
- Six recurring traps that cost IMG candidates marks, including ranking principles in a fixed order, treating duty to warn as Canadian, and overriding a capable refusal
- The four principles, the CMA Code, and professionalism
- Consent, capacity and substitute decision-making, including the mature minor doctrine
- Confidentiality and Permission to Warn under Smith v. Jones
- Patient safety, quality improvement, and adverse event disclosure
- Truth-telling and disclosure, including genetic testing and at-risk relatives
- Research ethics, including OCAP and research with Indigenous communities under TCPS2 Chapter 9
- The Canadian Healthcare System and the Canada Health Act
- Mandatory reporting and legal obligations, including fitness to drive
- End-of-life decisions and MAID under Bill C-7, with eligibility and safeguards
- Conscientious objection and the duty of effective referral
- Mental health and involuntary admission, including capacity for non-psychiatric decisions
- Indigenous health, including Jordan’s Principle and the TRC Calls to Action
- Anti-oppressive care, including implicit bias and the Brian Sinclair principles
- 2SLGBTQQIA+ health, social determinants of health, and substance use with harm reduction
What you get
- The full 4-hour recording of the live session, streamed on demand
- A 70-question ethics MCQ practice PDF, framed the way the MCCQE and NAC test the material
- A 2-pager covering the highest-yield ethics concepts to know going into exam day
- The same content delivered to live attendees, accessible at your own pace
